Matt and Laurie are committed to helping other individuals and marriages step into the light of the Savior’s transformative love.

Matt has his master’s degree in counseling from Grand Rapids Theological Seminary, and his bachelor’s in youth ministry from Cornerstone University in Grand Rapids, Michigan. He is an MA, LLPC in the state of Michigan. Laurie received her bachelor’s degree in English writing and communications from Cornerstone where she and Matt met, and where she received numerous awards for her work as a journalist.

The two have served in ministry together either part-time or full-time since 2009, and began Hole in my Heart Ministries in February of 2014. Matt and Laurie have spoken and taught in churches around the country, have guest-written for far-reaching online blogs, they consistently reach thousands of people on their own blog, are publishing a book with 10 Second Rule author Clare DeGraaf in the summer of 2016, and have counseled dozens of men and women who struggle with or are affected by sexual identity or addiction. The two are proud parents of Gwyneth and Juliette.

ABOUT THE MINISTRY:

Ministry mission:

  1. To teach men and women struggling with sexual identity or addiction that God loves them, and that he wants to heal the God-shaped holes in their hearts–whether or not their attractions ever change.
  2. To equip family members, leaders, and the Christian church community with the ability to be a part of that healing process.

Ministry vision:

To see every Christian marriage, family, and church become a place of restoration for those struggling with sexual identity or addiction.

How this is achieved:

  1. Through individual and group counseling focused on falling in love with a real and personal Jesus, through the truth of the Word of God, and the work of the Holy Spirit
  2. Through speaking engagements
  3. Through the creation and distribution of written and video resources

They Believe:

  1. Marriage is designed for one man and one woman for life.
  2. Not everyone is called to marriage, and his or her life is not lesser because of that fact.
  3. The process of sanctification (becoming whole and holy) is a lifelong journey.
