Sermons on Psalms (Page 4)
God and the Fool
In Psalm 14:1-7, the psalmist David displays the foolishness of people who reject God. Mr. Eduardo Martorano highlights the fool who resists God, the fool who resists God’s people, and the way God resists the fool. “None is righteous, no, not one; no one understands; no one seeks for God.”
How Long, O Lord?
Psalm 13:1-6 contains the lament of David asking the Lord for deliverance. Mr. Eduardo Martorano describes David’s cry of despair, his call of deliverance, and his chant of delight. “But I have trusted in your steadfast love; my heart shall rejoice in your salvation.”
Thirsting after Living Water
Beginning with Psalm 42:1-4, Pastor Paul van Engelenhoven presents a biblical-theological sermon on the theme of Living Water: thirsting after God, the rivers of Eden, water from the rock, life-giving waters from the temple, Jesus’ promise of living water, life-giving waters from the throne of God and the Lamb, and digging trenches. “As a deer pants for flowing streams,…
Save, O Lord, for the Godly One Is Gone
In Psalm 12:1- 8, David cries out to the Lord for help in distressing times. Mr. Eduardo Martorano explains David’s request, the response from the Lord, and the reassurance. “You, O Lord, will keep them; you will guard us from this generation forever.”
Preserve Me, O God, for in You I Take Refuge
In Psalm 16:1-11, David displays a contrast between the child of God and the person who follows false gods. Mr. Eduardo Martorano describes the godly loyalty, the godly blessing, and the godly prophecy. The psalmist declares, “You make known to me the path of life; in your presence, there is fullness of joy; at your right hand are pleasures forevermore.”
The Day of Joy and Gladness
Psalm 118:1-29 contains the song of joy sung by the people to Jesus on the first Palm Sunday. Rev. Paul van Engelenhoven declares the day of salvation, the day of shining, and the day of steadfast love. “Blessed is he who comes in the name of the Lord!”
In the Lord I Take Refuge
Psalm 11:1-7 reminds us to trust in the Lord at all times, despite what others may say. Mr. Eduardo Martorano shares the panic of David’s friends, the power in David’s heart, and our future glory when we trust the Lord. “For the Lord is righteous; he loves righteous deeds; the upright shall behold his face.”
Why O Lord, Do You Stand Far Away?
Psalm 10:1-18 teaches us how to rely on God for his ultimate justice. Mr. Eduardo Martorano uses this Psalm to describe the alarm of the godly when facing injustice and the appeal of the godly knowing the Lord is King. “O Lord, you hear the desire of the afflicted; you will strengthen their heart; you will incline your ear.”
I Will Recount Your Wonderful Deeds
In Psalm 9:1-20, David expresses the universal reign of God and his kindness to those who cry out to him for aid. Mr. Eduardo Martorano summarizes David’s praise to God and David’s prayer to God. “I will be glad and exult in you; I will sing praise to your name, O Most High.”
Man’s Place in Created Order
In Psalm 8:1-9, the psalmist David focuses on the glory due to our creator. Mr. Eduardo Martorano uses Psalm 8 to describe who God is and who we are: our creatureliness, our dignity, and our mortality. “O Lord, our Lord, how majestic is your name in all the earth!”
