In Luke 2:22-35, Simeon, filled with the Spirit, sees the great promise that Jesus brings to the Gentiles and to Israel, but he also sees the division that Jesus will bring. Rev. Paul van Engelenhoven describes the salvation that Simeon saw, the salvation of light and of glory, and the division that Simeon saw, the revelation of hearts, either falling or rising.
“For my eyes have seen your salvation that you have prepared in the presence of all peoples, a light for revelation to the Gentiles, and for glory to your people Israel.”
