Morning Worship

A Mission-Minded Church
Pastor Paul van Engelenhoven

  • Sermon ThemePaul emphasizes the church’s mission at the end of his letter to the Romans. First, he expresses his expectation from the church at Rome (15:24). Second, he expresses how the Gentiles owe Jewish believers financial support when needed (15:26–27). Third, he emphasizes the need for continued prayer for gospel ministers who go into the mission field (15:30–33).
  • Sermon Text: Romans 15:22–33
  • Sermon Notes:
    • Introduction: The Great Need to Work Together
      • Hospitality to Missionaries (v. 24)
      • Support of Jewish Believers (vv. 26–27)
      • Prayer for the Spread of the Gospel (vv. 30–33)
    • Application: Live with a Missionary Heart

Afternoon Worship

Religion and the Heart of Man
Mr. Matthew Reyes

  • Sermon Theme: As we continue in the book of James, James emphasizes the importance of religious worship that is pure and undefiled. James teaches us that any religious worship that neglects to bridle the tongue, neglects to care for the helpless, and neglects to keep oneself pure from the world, is a worthless religion. In our last study, James emphasized how important it is to listen to God in the Word and to be doers of the Word. Now James finishes his exhortation on living the Word through our speech and conduct.
  • Sermon Text: James 1:26–27
  • Sermon Notes:
    • Introduction: True religion and worship comes from a pure heart that is set on the Word of God and filled with His grace.
      • Worthless Religion (v. 26)
        • Worthless religion focuses on outward appearance but neglects the heart.
      • Pure Religion (v. 27)
        • Pure and undefiled religion encompasses both a love for people and hatred of sin.
      • True Religion (vv. 26–27)
        • True religion comes from true faith and always produces the fruit of righteousness in both our speech and conduct.
    • Application: There are many ways to worship God in vain through our own external religious efforts. But James says that all true religion and worship comes from a heart that is set on the Lord and seeks to do His will in all that we say and in all that we do!
